Mixed media works by Leung Mee Ping and poems by Huang Canran

Why write poems?

Huang Canran: In the end, writing poems give me a chance to leave behind mundane life and to enter a state of balanced pleasure.

Leung Mee Ping: Same for me, but I use a visual form.

The poet Huang Canran and the art practitioner Leung Mee Ping cross-reference the works of each other – A Poem Without A Title: a creative conversation between image and poetry. While the two are both creators, they are also inevitably the reader/audience for each other. Modern poetry has always been known for their obscurity (or been criticised as such). Modern art, especially those presented in the forms of mixed media, face the same condition. As an audience, a poet might question the creation of the artist, just like the artist will come up with all kinds of questions when reading the works of the poet. However, both the poet and artist are creative individuals, each is independent and free. Likewise, the works in this event are not footnotes to each other. What is important is that both are equally curious: the whole project is like a poem or art work still in development. And as to how to complete it and how well it will be completed – these are mysteries to the two creators.

Hand-written poems of Huang Canran will appear on the walls of the upper and lower floors of the art space and Leung Mee Ping will display several pieces of mixed media works including glass, photographs, long black hair, lights, inkjet prints and a whole space of butterflies.
