Maria Taniguchi (b. 1981, Dumaguete City) lives and works in Manila. One of the most celebrated artists from the younger generation in Asia, Taniguchi was bestowed the Hugo Boss Asia Art Award in 2015 and the Ateneo Art Award in 2011 and 2012.
In her brick paintings, Taniguchi works and plays with the possibilities of form, engaging time and labour-intensive processes in seemingly neutral surfaces. This special new edition for Para Site revisits one of the artist’s earlier series of works.
Past exhibitions and projects include Afterwork, Para Site, Hong Kong, Histories of a Vanishing Present: A Prologue Chapter 2, The Mistake Room, LA, and Globale: New Sensorium, ZKM/Center for Art and Media, Karlsruhe, Germany, in 2016; the 8th Asia Pacific Triennial, Queensland Art Gallery, Queensland, Australia, Reverence and Reproach: Modernist Legacies in Contemporary Film and Video, Tate Britain, London, in 2015; Maria Taniguchi, Silverlens, Manila, Philippines, Maria Taniguchi, Ibid. London, London, in 2014; HIWAR: Conversations in Amman, Khalid Shoman Foundation, in 2013; and Without a Murmur, Museum of Contemporary Art and Design, Manila, in 2012.
Maria Taniguchi’s edition is printed with the support of Hong Kong Open Printshop.
